Prevention is better than a cure

Much of our time providing HR Consultancy for small businesses could be described as fire-fighting. And we really enjoy the fight! Something has happened – like an employee underperforming or the need to recruit quickly and we work with a client to resolve the issue and get the workforce back up to full productivity promptly.

But in most cases, preventing the issue from arising in the first place is generally a more cost effective and less disruptive position. Wherever there is an employment issue, not only does it take up management time and the cost of fixing the issue, but it is also disruptive to the employees affected and those around them. Issues tend to breed issues (one grievance often gives other employees the idea to raise their own) and soon your employer reputation may well be tarnished; affecting your ability to attract and retain the best talent.
